Yavatmal district in Eastern Maharashtra has recorded just a little over 50 per cent of average rainfall since the beginning of the monsoon season on June 1.
Today this district in Vidarbha region, a cotton belt infamous for farmer suicides, recorded 15.06 mm rainfall.
According to the local administration, the district on an average records 911.34 mm rainfall every year. However, this monsoon (between June 1 and August 13), it has recorded just 552.78 mm, which comes to 52.43 per cent.
July is the wettest monsoon month followed by August and as things stand currently, the district is likely to fall way short of achieving average downpour figure.
The taluka-wise rainfall (in mm) from June 1 to August 13 is: Yavatmal (630.40), Babhulgaon (464), Kalamb (229), Arni (540), Darwha (493), Digras (470), Ner (511), Pusad (541), Umarkhed (252), Mahagaon (410), Kelapur(545), Ghatanji(530), Ralegaon (504), Wani (578), Maregaon (455) and Zari Jamni (409).
