The BJP's Karnataka unit today demanded that the Congress-JDS government come out with a 'whitepaper' on the state's finances.

"The government should come out with a whitepaper on the financial condition of the state immediately, because the chief minister is repeatedly saying the state's financialcondition is not good," unit chief B SYeddyurappa told reporters at Shivamogga.

Yeddyurappa, who is the leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, said at a time when development works had come to a standstill, it was the government's duty to make people aware of the reality.

The BJP leader said earlier too he had made a similar demand.

"Immediately inform about the financial condition of the state, it will not burden you, inform what state the previous congress government had left," Yeddyurappa said.

Reacting to the controversy over expensive iPhones giftedto MPs from Karnataka by state congress minister D K Shivakumar, Yeddyurappa said, "I don't want to talk much about it, none of our MPs will like to accept it. There is no need for it."

Kumaraswamy has said he was not aware of the gift and it was not discussed with him, while Shivakumar said they were given on his behalf as a "gesture" to the lawmakers.
