Yemeni security officials say an airstrike by a Saudi-led coalition targeting Shiite rebels in the southern province of Taiz has killed 25 people, 15 fighters and 10 civilians.

They say the strike, which happened early today, also wounded eight civilians. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorised to speak to reporters.

Yemen's conflict pits the rebels known as Houthis and their allies against the internationally recognised government, which is backed by a Saudi-led coalition of mainly Arab states.

Meanwhile, senior military commander Maj Gen Farag al-Bohsony says the death toll from a series of attacks last night in the southern city of Mukalla has risen to 48. He says the attacks, blamed on Yemen's Islamic State affiliate, also wounded 30 people.
