The woman was forced to get into a car by a group of men last evening at Chetla and taken to an undisclosed location where she was raped, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) P K Ghosh said.
Ghosh said the matter was being investigated after a complaint was made with the police in this regard.
A person has been detained for questioning, he said.
The complaint stated that the victim was later dumped by the accused where she was taken away from.
A spate of rape incidents have taken place in the city recently, including the Park Street case in which an Anglo-Indian woman was raped in a moving car by a group of five young men in last February.
A senior official of the Park Street police station, where the victim made the complaint, was transferred after he was accused of not taking the complaint seriously.
Four months after the infamous case, another housewife was raped in a moving car in the city.
