Yoga has amazing curative powers: Prez

Yoga has amazing curative and preventive powers for well-being of humanity and modern lifestyle related disorders, President Pranab Mukherjee said here today.

Mukherjee inaugurated a mass Yoga event at Rashtrapati Bhavan to commemorate the first International Yoga Day today.

Speaking on the occasion, the President conveyed his best wishes to all on International Yoga Day.

He said that India is the home of Yoga where it was practiced over centuries.

"It has amazing curative as well as preventive powers for the well-being of humanity and for the management of many modern lifestyle related disorders," the President said.

He said one of the most important teachers of Yoga was Yoga Guru Patanjali.
 

Mukherjee said Yoga is both an art as well as a science.

He expressed his happiness that many residents of Rashtrapati Bhavan have been practicing Yoga for a long period of time.

Around 1000 residents and staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President's Body Guard, the Army Guard, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the Delhi Police participated in the mass Yoga event.

The event was organised in collaboration with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of AYUSH.

Yoga practice classes were also conducted for residents of the President's Estate from June 1 to 20, 2015 in preparation for the International Yoga Day.
