Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today said his guru Mahant Avaidnath regarded 'rashtra dharma' (duty towards the nation) above all religions and believed that 'Sanatan dharma' was the key to preserving India.
He made the remarks during the anniversary function of Mahant Digvijaynath and Mahant Avaidnath of the Gorakshpeeth at the Gorakhnath temple here.
"Had the philosophy and ideals of Mahant Digvijaynath been followed, there would not have been the problem of separatism in the north-eastern states nor Kashmir been burning like this ...," he said.
Recalling the contribution of Mahant Digvijaynath, the chief minister said he had united the sages of the Nath community and inspired them to work for the nation.
