young guitarist Kamla Shankar to receive Kumar Gandharv Award

Noted young guitarist Dr Kamla Shankar will be the recipient of National Kumar Gandharv Award for 2009-10.

Instituted by the Department of Culture, Madhya Pradesh government, the award will be given to the young guitarist at a function in Dewas during the Kumar Gandharv Sangeet Samaroh on April 8, the Culture and Public Relations Minister Laxmikant Sharma told reporters.

Dr Kamla Shankar was born in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu and later shifted to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

She modified the instrument which is now known world-over as 'Shankar Guitar'.
