Youth arrested for abetting girl's suicide

Police today arrested a youth for abatement to the suicide of a girl, who took the extreme step allegedly due to acute mental stress caused to her by "offensive" phone calls.

Parmanand, a resident of Mewat district, was arrested from Dharuhera for abatement to the suicidal death of Sonu (20), police said.

Sonu, a student of Polytechnic Institute at Manesar town in Gurgaon district, had committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Rajiv Nagar colony here on May 13, they said.

Parmanand was today produced before a local court which remanded him in police custody for one day.

Earlier the police had registered a case of abatement to suicide against the accused on a complaint filed by Panna Lal, the victim's father.
