Youth arrested for attempting to rape girl in UP

A youth has been arrested for allegedly drugging and attempting to rape a 14-year-old girl along with four of his friends at Ganganagar area here, police said today.

According to a complaint lodged by the victim's family, the class IX student was drugged and taken to a guest house in Ganganagar on July 27 by the five youths where they tried to gangrape her, a police spokesperson said.

Hearing the girl's cries people gathered at the spot forcing the accused to flee. The youths, all within the age group of 20 to 22 years, also allegedly blackmailed the victim saying that the act was filmed and would be shared on the internet if she informs about it to anyone, he said.
 

Yesterday, the accused again called the girl at a mall in Shastri Nagar here following she informed her parents about the ordeal. They then met SSP DC Dubey and lodged a complaint in connection with the incident, he said.

Following the complaint, Areeb, was arrested from near the mall while his other accomplices identified as Sashank Pradhan, Siddharth Gurjar, Subham, and Sakib managed to escape, police said.

The girl also alleged that at least a dozen girls have been victims of this gang and a girl is also a member of it, SHO of Medical Police station Bachchan Singh Sirohi said.

A case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act has been registered against the accused and an investigation is underway, the SHO said.

He said a hunt is on to nab the other accused, including the student mentioned by the victim.
