Amit Raj was apprehended from Nand Nagri yesterday following investigations into a case filed by 65-year-old Bhagwan in September last year, V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of Police (West), said.

"The complainant was looking for a loan and in September last year, he received a call from a youth who promised him loan. He took five blank crossed cheques from him. However, a few days later he was shocked to know that Rs 92,000 had been withdrawn from his account," he said.

During investigations, it also came to light that the accused had allegedly made forged signatures of the complainant's wife.

Police also conducted searches at the address in the PAN card submitted by Raj to encash the cheque but it did not provide any results. However, his hideout was traced later.

During interrogation, Renganathan said, he had worked with one Hukam Chand who was working for HDFC bank.

"Raj was well aware about the banking procedure. He used to make a number of calls to different numbers randomly. When he called the complainant, he came to know that he was a suitable prey. He not only handed over the relevant documents, photographs to him but also five cheques," he said.
