Madhusudhan, who allegedly planned to start his own BPO business in Varanasi with the looted money, was apprehended following his questioning, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Meenu Choudhury said.
The burglary took place in the house of Manoj Kumar, who works as an accountant, in Adarsh Nagar on April 27 late night. Madhusudhan, the brother of Kumar's wife, used to stay with the couple.
Kumar had told police that he kept Rs nine lakh cash, which was given to him by his employer for payments, and on April 27 night, he had gone to his office.
"But the next day morning he got a call from his wife who informed him that the entire safe containing cash of more than Rs nine lakh and gold and silver jewellery have been stolen," Choudhury said.
During investigations, she said, it came to light that Madhusudhan was living with the complainant for the past one year.
"He told us that he had gone to Gurgaon on April 27 but investigations revealed that he was in Adarsh Nagar area at that time and had not gone to Gurgaon. During questioning, he confessed his involvement in the crime," Choudhury said.
