The villagers overpowered Krityanand Sharma who took out a pistol and pointed it at Mandal who had visited the village to broker truce between rival groups of people locked in a land dispute, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Harishankar Kumar said.
The accused was subsequently arrested by the police under the Arms Act and booked on the statement of the former MLA, he said.
The pistol too has been seized from Sharma's possession, Kumar said.
