In a suspected case of honour killing, a 23-year-old youth was beaten to death allegedly by some members of a family in Thana Bhawan town in neighbouring Shamli district, police said today.
The incident took place last evening and one person has been arrested in this connection, they said.
According to the complaint lodged with police by the mother of the deceased, the youth was in a romantic relationship with a girl for the past two years, but her family was opposed to this.
The couple were found at the girl's house following which heated exchange of words ensued andthe youth was then allegedly beaten up and thrown out into the streets by the girl's family members.
He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead.
A case has been registered against five person including the girl's father, his brother, and three sons, Circle Officer Kushal Verma said, adding, the father has been arrested.
The body has been sent for postmortem. Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the area and extra security force has been deployed.
