Youth burnt alive for suspected theft

A 25-year-old man was allegedly burnt alive by three persons who suspected him of indulging in theft at a village here today, district said police.

"The deceased, identified as Naresh Babubhai Jadhav (25), a resident of Jodia village in Jamnagar district, was burnt alive today at his residence," Jodia police station sub-inspector J V Deshvadia said.

The incident occurred when the accused, Kanha Jadhav, his wife along another villager Babu Jadhav came to Naresh's house and had heated arguments suspecting him of stealing a cellphone and purse from their home, he said.

"When the victim objected to the allegations, the trio poured kerosene on him and set him on fire," he said.
 

Naresh sustained 80 per cent burns. He was taken to Guru Govind Singh general hospital where he died.

"Naresh has given 'dying declaration' before the police accusing the three persons of burning him before he succumbed to the burns during treatment," Deshvadia said.

Efforts were on to nab the accused, he added.

An FIR was registered against all the three accused under IPC section 302 (murder), he said, adding that further probe was on.
