A youth today alleged that three police officials beat him up and urinated on his face when he sought their help while trying to escape from a gang of miscreants.

Md Rafiq, who works in a fast-food centre in the city's Park Circus area, alleged that he was last night returning home after work when a gang of goons surrounded him and tried to snatch his belongings and money.

As he tried to escape, he ran into three men who claimed to be police officials.

But when the alleged snatchers, who had in the meantime caught up with Rafiq, told the cops that the latter was a thief, they beat him up mercilessly.

When Rafiq asked them for water, the trio claiming to be cops allegedly urinated on his face.

An unconscious Rafiq was later admitted to a local hospital. An FIR in the matter has been filed in Beniapukur police station.

Senior police officials today remained tight-lipped about the incident.

"We are investigating the matter and all angles are being explored. If someone is found guilty, action would be taken," said Joint Commissioner (crime), Pallab Kanti Ghosh.
