A drama unfolded at the Jalalpur Kalan village near here today when a youth climbed atop a 105-foot high temple alleging that his "girlfriend" had refused to marry him, and came down only after the girl was brought there and he was assured about their marriage.

Sandip, a resident of Barah Khurd in the village, climbed the Baba Jatigarh Temple here around 11 AM.

On seeing him atop the temple, the villagers tried to bring him down. But he threatened that if anybody came near the temple, he would jump down.

Sandip, who claimed to be a student of BSc, said that he was in love with a girl of the village and the girl had promised to marry him, But now she was marrying somebody else.

Failing to convince him to come down, the villagers called the police. The policemen also tried to bring him down, but to no avail.

Then, DSP (headquarters) Suresh Kumar brought the girl to the spot.

Kumar said the girl was brought to the rooftop of a nearby building and the boy was assured that she would be married to him, after which he agreed to come down.

The youth stayed atop the temple for nearly five hours.
