Youth Cong demands renaming of Mohali Airport; lathicharged

Several members of Punjab youth Congress were today injured after police resorted to lathicharge while they were protesting to press for their demand to name International Airport at Mohali after legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.

Police tried to stop the 'padyatra' as they reached Singh Shaheedan Gurdwara at Sohana in Mohali.

However, Congress members tried to break the barricade, following which the police resorted to lathicharge, officials said.

In the melee, some policemen too were injured.

Meanwhile, Charanjit Singh Channi, Leader of opposition condemned the brutal lathicharge by Punjab police on youth Congress workers who were heading peacefully with their padyatra started four days back.
 

"This shows the cruel attitude of this force, which started beating the youth workers and cane charged them," he said.

He demanded an inquiry into the incident of lathicharge and immediate registration of cases against the police Officers who used this brutal force against the youth workers.
