Accusing the Narendra Modi government of "sleeping" as prices of essentials including onion soared, Youth Congress today staged a protest outside the BJP headquarters here.

Scores of activists of the party's youth wing, led by its chief Amrinder Singh Raja, gathered in front of the BJP headquarters here wielding garlands and baskets of onions.

"Prime Minister Modi, who promised to bring Achchhe Din for common man has failed to check price rise. This is a failed Modi Sarkar which is expert in making promises but completely lacks in action," Singh told in his address to the protesters.

Prices of onion, pulses and other essential commodities are soaring and the government is "sleeping", compelling us to protest in order to wake up this "anti-poor government" from its slumber, he said.

"PM Modi failed to take action against Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chauhan over their involvement in Lalit Gate and Vyapam. We hope he will act firmly and swiftly to bring down the prices of onions at least," Raja added.
