Indian Youth Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja today submitted a memorandum to the government demanding that it scrap the new Land Acquisition Ordinance which he termed as "anti-farmer".
"Youth Congress strongly opposes this new ordinance that poses a threat to the interests of the farmers and tribal people," Raja said after submitting the memorandum in the Rural Development Ministry.
In a statement, he said Youth Congress launched a nationwide "Kisaan Satyagraha" from today, demanding that this new ordinance should be rolled back immediately.

"We are not going to remain silent on this issue and we will continue to oppose such draconian laws and ordinances enacted by this anti-poor and pro-capitalist Modi government," Raja said.
He charged that ever since the BJP government has assumed power, there seems to be a "deliberate attempt" to harm the agriculture industry, especially the small and marginal farmers and agriculture-based workers.
"Farmers are not getting fair price for their produce and the benefits of drop in crude oil prices in international market are also not reaching the domestic consumers who are the most affected and there is a shortage of fertilizers, urea and seed varieties. This government is now trying to snatch farmer's and tribal's land on the pretext of land reforms," he said.
BJP government is not ready to face the opposition in Parliament on key issues and using "back door" tactics for implementing their "anti-farmer anti-poor agenda".
