Indian Youth Congress (IYC) today announced it will launch an awareness campaign against drug addiction in Punjab, and alleged that the state government has "failed miserably" to curb the menace.
The newly appointed IYC President and MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said during his Muktsar visit that the 'Save Punjab' campaign will start awareness drive among people against drugs, counsel them and help them get admission to drug de-addiction centres.
"Save Punjab campaign will be taken to every corner of the state so that the people of Punjab are saved from the drug menace," he said.
Attacking the SAD-BJP government in Punjab on the issue of drugs, Warring said the state government has failed miserably to curb the drugs menace during their regime and now they are blaming the central forces.
"This is mere eyewash and drama by this government. They are not sincere towards the betterment of people of Punjab," Warring said while pointing out SAD's recent dharna near international borders.
SAD-BJP alliance will break soon as both the parties have started the blame game for the drug menace in Punjab, he said.
Warring criticised the state government for not having student elections in the colleges and universities of Punjab for so long.
"We will take this matter with NSUI strongly and ask them to make the students elections happen in Punjab very soon," he said.
Meanwhile, Warring also cautioned the Centre on the amendment of Land Acquisition bill in the Parliament and said that the Youth Congress will launch 'Satyagrah' from 12-30 January across the country to make people aware of the "anti people" and "anti farmer" policies of the Central government.
