A youth from Haryana's Kurukshetra district was detained for allegedly extorting money from a law student from Azerbaijan, whom he had befriended over a social networking site, threatening to upload her morphed photographs on pornographic websites, police said today.
The complainant approached Delhi Police Commissioner through e-mail on July 27 and asked for help. The matter was immediately referred to the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police's Crime Branch, said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
The youth was soon tracked and the Senior Superintendent of Police at the concerned district was informed. The youth turned out to be one Amit Sharma, who was detained by Haryana Police, said a senior police official.

According to police, Sharma befriended the woman on Facebook last year and soon managed to get some of her photographs. He then allegedly started demanding money threatening that he would otherwise upload her morphed pictures on pornographic websites.
The woman claimed to have paid him a hundred dollars a month over a period of time and when she stopped, Sharma allegedly posted some obscene photographs on her Facebook page. After that, the woman had to delete her Facebook account.
In May 2015, Sharma again allegedly started to send texts to the woman through Whatsapp and demanded Rs 50,000. The woman claimed to have sent 600 dollars through a money transfer agency and then approached Delhi Police.
Sharma was asked to bend down on his knees and apologise to the woman through a video, which was later sent to her. The woman later did not insist on pursuing the case further, the senior official said.
Any further action, if felt necessary, shall be taken by Haryana Police, the official added.
