A youth, suspected to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping and murder of a 7-year-old boy, has been detained today, police said.

In a late night press conference, ADG (Crime) Ajeet Singh said the accused, identified as Ankur Phadiya, was detained this evening from his residence here in connection with the abduction and murder of 7-year-old Rudraksh Handa.

"He has not been arrested as of now since the probe is still going on. Involvement of a few more locals is being investigated," he said.

Rudraksh was found dead on Friday in Jhakmund village of Bundi district after he was allegedly abducted from a park here the previous day.

A search was carried out at Phadiya's residence and relevant evidence and documents were recovered, police said.

During the five-day investigation, Singh said Phadiya surfaced as the key suspect, following which his activities, call details and emails were probed.

Earlier in the day, police had said that a suspect in the case had surfaced after examining the footages of CCTV cameras collected from various points of the city.

Rudraksh's parents had today demanded a CBI probe into the matter even as protests were held to demand immediate arrest of the culprits.

Angry villagers had staged a protest to demand action against the accused. Trade organisations observed a bandh yesterday to demand the immediate arrest of the accused.
