Youth dies after suffering muscle injuries in trial race

A 20-year-old student died at a hospital here today after suffering critical muscle injuries during the trial of a cross-country race.

Tekchand Kohli, a second year student of physical education course in Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), succumbed to his severe muscle injuries during treatment in a hospital, DAVV spokesman told PTI.

"After running around 4.8 km yesterday, Kohli had started fumbling and experienced breathing problem during the trial for the race scheduled for September 13 at Burhanpur district at the varsity's ground yesterday," he said.

Kohli was admitted to a private hospital, where he was put on life support and despite all out efforts by doctors, he died.
 

According to the doctors, Kohli had suffered critical injuries to his muscles, the Vishwavidyalaya spokesman said.

"Kohli was not an inexperienced runner," the DAVV spokesman said, adding that he had stood second at a 6-km practice session run for cross country on August 19.

The post-mortem of the deceased was carried out at the district hospital, he said adding that the reason of his death will be known when the autopsy report is out.

Police are investigating the matter.
