Youth dies in police firing in Kashmir

An 18-year-old youth was today killed allegedly in security forces firing to disperse violent protesters at Sumbal in Bandipora district of Kashmir.

Farhat Ahmad Dar died on the spot when security forces opened fire to chase away a violent mob that tried to set a police vehicle on fire during protests after Friday prayers, police sources said.

Three other persons have been hurt in the incident, which led to further protests in the area, the sources said.

According to the sources, the protesters pelted stones at the headquarter of an Indian Reserve Police battalion at Sumbal after the prayers.

They then tired to set ablaze a police vehicle stationed near the police installation.
 

Clashes between security forces and local residents were going on till reports last came in, the sources said.
