Youth dies while trying to mediate between two warring groups

A 28-year-old youth, who tried to mediate between two warring groups of vegetable vendors in north-west Delhi's Model Town area, lost his life when somebody attacked him with an iron rod, police said today.

Rashid, who worked at a Reliance Fresh outlet at the GT Karnal road and lived in Sangam Vihar area, died in the incident which took place last evening.

"Rashid received a call informing that one of his friend Gulfam was injured in a brawl between two groups of vegetable vendors at the market near Gurudwara Nanak Piao in Model Town," a police official said.

Rashid rushed to the spot and was trying to pacify the two groups when someone hit him with an iron rod on his head.
 

He was rushed to Bara Hindu Rao hospital, where he was declared brought dead, police said.

A case of murder has been registered at Model Town police station and three people have been detained after preliminary investigations, police said.
