A 24-year-old student was arrested here today for allegedly posing as a software developer working for a Bangalore-based IT major and duping several women by promising to marrying them.
The accused, identified as Panati Sasi Kumar, is a native of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh and currently a resident of Bangalore.
He was apprehended by Cyberabad Police in a particular case wherein he allegedly cheated a woman from Jalpally here by promising to marry her, besides taking Rs 1.5 lakh to place her sister with the software firm where he claimed to work, through the "back-door" process, police said.

"The accused also visited the victim's house where he met her parents and made them believe that he would be marrying her. The accused also posed himself as a software developer with an IT company in Bangalore," Reddy said referring to the complaint.
Later, the accused threatened the woman that he would post her morphed pictures if she asked for the money and also stopped responding to her phone calls, the officer said.
A case of cheating has been registered against Kumar under IPC and under provisions of the Information Technology Act.
During investigation, the Cyber Crime Police collected his profile pictures from various matrimony portals and examined the victim/complainant and her sister, police said.
The probe revealed that Kumar had posted his profile on several matrimony websites and was chatting with prospective women.
"He allegedly cheated many innocent unmarried and divorced women under the pretext of marrying them," Reddy said.
Kumar was arrested when he returned to Hyderabad, to take away his belongings and move to Bangalore, police said, adding he will be produced before Miyapur court.
