A 23-year-old youth was feared drowned in the Yamuna when he had gone to take a bath in the river, police said today.

Police said that the youth, identified as one Deepak from Kohliwada, was swept away by the strong currents in the river in the afternoon yesterday. He had gone to take a bath in the river accompanied by three of his friends.

Although a search was started yesterday itself, nightfall had hampered the efforts, police said. They added that fire brigade officials had taken up the search today which, however, has proved unsuccessful so far.

Villages downstream have been notified about the incident and asked to look out for the body, police said.
