A youth who worked at Akshardham temple here allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at the staff quarters inside the temple complex in the wee hours today, police said.

The incident came to light when other employees found Jaimeen Bhavtar (25) dead in the staff quarters inside the temple. He was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where doctors failed to revive him.

His body has been sent for post mortem and his family members arrived in the capital. Bhavtar was a sweeper in the temple. He was a resident of Ahmedabad and was working at the temple for the last three years.

Police said Bhavtar took this extreme step probably because of a girl, whom he loved, refused to marry him.

"He was good at work and behaved cordially with everyone. Off late, he had been apparently depressed over a girl, who lived in Ahmedabad, turning down his marriage proposal," one of his co-workers told police.
