A youth has been sentenced by a Delhi court to seven years in jail for kidnapping and repeatedly sodomising a nine-year-old.

Additional Sessions Judge Atul Kumar Garg awarded the jail term to 21-year-old Naveen, a Bihar native, and held him guilty for the offences of sodomy, kidnapping, abducting to subject a person to grievous hurt and criminal intimidation.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 22,000 on him.

It noted that the victim had stated that Naveen called him three-four times to his room while he had gone to play on the roof of his house, where he was living as tenant, and did "wrong acts" with him.

According to the prosecution, the incident took place on September 9, 2012, when the child had gone to the rooftop in Burari area for playing and Naveen, who also resided there, called him and sodomised him.

Police was informed about the incident and the minor was taken to hospital where doctors declared that the child was sodomised.

A case was registered against the accused at Burari Police Station.

Naveen sought leniency in sentencing on the ground that he was young and has to support his family members and was the sole bread earner in the family.

The prosecution, however, said he had sexually assaulted a nine-year-old boy and stringent punishment be given to him so that society learns a lesson.
