A 22-year-old youth from Vangaon in Dahanu taluka of the district was hacked to death today by a group of five to six persons in the village the district rural police said here today.
Assistant police inspector V F Shinde of the Vangaon police station told PTI that the victim Mayur R Chowdhari was allegedly involved in a dispute over land with rivals in the village.
An offence was registered against him and his family members around an year ago and they were in jail until around last month when they came out.
Today noon, he went to the disputed land in the village along with workers and started cleaning up the ground when members of the rival group armed with lethal weapons attacked him, the police said.
In the attack Mayur was badly wounded and died on way to hospital, the police said.
Those accused have been identified as Jagdish Vaza Tandel, Pasha and others.
An that an offence under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections had been registered.
Investigations are being carried out by the local police and no arrest has been made so far in connection with the incident, the police said.
