Youth held for committing armed robberies

A 22-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly committing several robberies at gunpoint in northeast and east districts of Delhi after getting high on drugs, police said today.

With the arrest, 36 such cases have been solved, police said.

Nazbul Hassan alias Jaigum was arrested on Tuesday by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police after it received a tip off that he would come to Shastri Park Red Light at about 05:30 PM.

Police recovered a sophisticated .32 bore pistol with 25 live cartridges from his possession.

"Hassan is wanted in seven cases of murder, attempt to murder and other street crimes in Welcome, Zafrabad and Khajuri Khas," Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime ) Ravindra Yadav said.
 

He had committed more than 36 snatchings and robberies in last three months in northeast and east districts, Yadav said.

Hassan said at the time of committing crime, he used to consume 'nitrovit' drug, which made him feel fearless and he committed the crime confidently, Yadav said.

During sustained interrogation, the accused allegedly told police that he and his gang had planned to rob a jewellery shop in Usmanpur for which they had already carried out recce. However, the arrest foiled their plan, police said.
