Youth held for extortion in Muzaffarnagar

A youth has been arrested for extorting money from a priest at Khatauli town here, police said today.

Mohan Lal, a priest at a temple here, received a phone call from the accused, who demanded Rs 50,000 as extortion money from him, police said.

The youth, identified as Mahipal, was nabbed yesterday when he came to collect the money from the victim, they said.

In another incident, a 50-year-old farmer was allegedly shot dead when he had gone to irrigate his fields Tigris village here, police said.

Unidentified miscreants shot the man, yet to be identified, yesterday, police said a case has been registered in the matter and further investigations are on.
