Youth held for killing neighbour over cutting leaves of tree

A 19-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly murdering his neighbour after an argument ensued between them over cutting leaves of a banana tree.'

The accused, identified as Sujeet Kumar was arrested yesterday by the staff of Geeta Colony Police Station.

The incident took place on Thursday in East Delhi's Geeta Colony area when 23-year-old Govind Mehto went to the nearby park and started cutting leaves of a banana tree.

"However, the accused who also lived in the same locality, objected to it and both of them entered into a heated argument.

"In a fit of rage, Kumar slit Mehto's neck with a kitchen knife and fled from the spot. The victim was rushed to Max Hospital Patpatganj where he succumbed to his injuries," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar.
 

The body was handed over to the family members for final rites after the post mortem was conducted, he said adding, the knife used for killing and blood stained clothes have been recovered and further investigation is in progress.
