Youth held for making prank calls

A 25-year old man has been arrested on charges of making nearly 200 prank calls to emergency numbers like Police Control Room and Ambulance services in the last few months.

A special team, set up based on complaints from the control room, 108 ambulance service and Fire and Rescue Department here, arrested construction worker Vanaraj from his native Cumbum in Theni District, police said today.

Police Commissioner had formed the team to nab the prankster after complaints that the caller was making calls in night hours and used foul language against the personnel, particularly women.

He was found using four SIM cards and was traced to Alandurai on the city outskirts. Learning that police were searching for him, the accused fled to his native.
 

According to records, he had made 88 nuisance calls to the Police Control Room and 100 calls to Ambulance service, police said.
