Youth held for raping teenage girl in Thane

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by a jilted youth and his friend at a village near here, police said today.

The girl, who hails from Ovla of Ghodbunder Road on the outskirts of the city, was allegedly abducted by two youths last evening from Waghbil in the area and sexually abused by them in a room at the lakeside in a nearby village, Assistant Inspector K N Salvi of Kasarwadavali police station said.

Police said one of the accused, identified as Manish alias Mashal Gangaram Shinge (23), was known to the victim and she had recently broke off with him.
 

Salvi said while police arrested Shinge in the wee hours today, his accomplice Dhiraj Namdeo Kolhekar is on the run.

The duo were booked under sections 392 (punishment for robbery), 366(a) (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage), 376 (punishment for rape) among other sections of the IPC and under section 48 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

Police said after the victim had ended her relationship with the accused Manish he had threatened her of dire consequences.
