A youth was killed by some miscreants when he tried to intervene in the scuffle of two groups during a local religious fair in Churu district, police said.

The incident took place yesterday in Mainasar village and the deceased is identified as Babulal, police said.

One Prahlad Singh and his friends were quarrelling with Rajkumar and his friends when Babulal intervened and asked Prahad and his friends -- Satveer, Balbeer, and Madan Singh -- to leave from the site, they said.

Prahlad, in a fit of rage, started his jeep and crushed Babulal, police said, adding, two others were also injured.

All of them were rushed to a hospital where Babulal succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Later, irate locals set ablaze Prahlad's jeep and thrashed him, they said.

He is also being treated at the hospital, police said, adding, his accomplices managed to escape from the spot.
