A 24-year-old youth allegedly
shot himself dead with a country-made pistol at his residence after informing his brother about his suicide plans in West Delhi's Prashant Vihar area, police said.
The deceased, identified as Aashish who belonged to a well-to-do family, shot himself in the left side of his chest around 4 AM.

"Aashish called his elder brother Anuj on his phone at around 3. 30 AM and told him that he is going to kill himself," said a police official.
Anuj rushed home and found Aashish's room locked from inside. He broke open the door with the help of a guard but Aashish shot himself before that.
Anuj rushed Aashish to a nearby hospital while informing police but he was declared dead, police said.
During investigation, it was found that Aashish belonged to a rich family but was currently unemployed and was addicted to alcohol.
The reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained, police said.
No suicide note was recovered by the police although the deceased had recorded a statement on his phone which has been seized by the police.
