A 20-year-old youth has allegedly committed suicide by coming in front of a train, apparently over a failed love affair, railway police said today.

The youth had not been missing from his home for a week, they said.

The victim identified as Gursewak Singh, a resident of Taran Taran district based on a voter's identity card and a damaged mobile phone found from his bag recovered at the spot, they said.

According to GRP sources, Singh was carrying two bags and he took the extreme step on the railway tracks near PAP area here last evening.

Based on a note found from his bag and the victim's family's version, Singh was apparently upset over the marriage of a girl, he had loved, in another family, the GRP said.

A case has been registered by the victim's father and further investigation is on, police said, adding the body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem.
