A youth was lynched and another critically injured by a mob on the suspicion of stealing a goat at a tea garden in north Bengal's Jalpaiguri district today, police said.

The incident occurred within a week of lynching of an ITI student on the suspicion of stealing a buffalo at a village in south Bengal.

Locals at Damdim tea garden in Mal area claimed they saw four persons trying to lift a goat in a car. They captured two of them, beat them up, killing a person on the spot, police said.

The other person is now in Mal hospital in a critical condition, they said.

The two other companions of the victims managed to flee and the mob set afire their car, police said.

An ITI student, who came to a village in South 24 Parganas district to visit his aunt, was lynched on May 9 by a mob who suspected that he had stolen a buffalo.
