A 17-year-old youth from Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra was booked today for allegedly outraging religious feelings of a class by posting a morphed image showing Dalit icon B R Ambedkar in poor light on social media, police said.
The teenager, who is a member of a Whatsapp group named as 'teri meri yari', allegedly posted the morphed image of Dr Ambedkar in which the latter was shown wearing ear and nose rings with coloured hair, a police official said.
Some of the members in the group objected to the post, following which the group admin approached Kopargaon city police station last night, he said.
The youth was booked under section 295 (Injuring or defiling place of worship, with intent to insult the religion of any class) of the IPC for forwarding the post.
He was not arrested because he is a minor, said the official.
Police are investigating the source of the post and probing who else had forwarded the image, apart from the youth, he said.
