A youth belonging to Kollidam in Nagapattinam district has found a place in India Book of Records by creating a mega portrait of Goddess Andal of Sriviliputhur temple using mustard.

The graphic art, measuring 8 ft high and 5.5 ft wide, has been meticulously created in a white card board using thousands of mustard pieces. "I used 750 gm of mustard and placed them in the card board using one kg of glue," said 26-year-old R Prabhu.

Prabhu, an expert in handicraft works, has designed several innovative art works in the past. A few years back, he created a miniature model of the Thanjavur big temple using sago.

"I took up mustard this time to create the image of Goddess Andal because it (mustard) used to be an important measure in ancient times to construct intricate architectural works in temples. Many shapes used to be depicted in terms of the number of mustard pieces," Prabhu told reporters here last night.

Prabhu's work has been has been recognised as an extraordinary work under the category 'creativity' in the India Book of Records. A certificate has been issued by the book of records to him early this week. The work will be officially published in the website of India Book of Records during July, he said.

India book of records, started in 2004, is a registrar of national and international world records in India.
