Youth's death: NHRC issues notices to CISF, Durg police

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued notices to CISF and police authorities in Durg district of Chhattisgarh in connection with a youth's death after he was allegedly beaten up by CISF personnel at Bhilai Steel Plant.

An NHRC statement today said the notices were issued after the Commission took suo motu cognisance of a media report which said that a youth allegedly died due to fatal injuries inflicted on him by CISF personnel at the steel plant.

The rights panel has asked the Director General, CISF, and Superintendent of Police, Durg, Chhattisgarh, to submit their reports on the issue in four weeks.
 

The Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, carried on October 28, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim.

Rajendra Yadav (28) was reportedly caught by CISF personnel on the intervening night of October 25-26 on the suspicion of theft at the steel plant.

He was allegedly brutally thrashed, resulting in fatal injuries. Subsequently, he was admitted in the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The relatives of the deceased were informed about the incident only after they reached the hospital inquiring about him, the statement said.
