A special court in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district today sentenced a youth to 10 years imprisonment for sodomising a four-year-old child seven months ago.

Additional District Sessions Judge Virender Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the accused, Mohit Kumar (20), after holding him guilty under Section 5 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.

According to prosecution lawyer Pushpender Malik, Mohit abducted a four-year-old boy and sexually assaulted him in a school in Bhuwapur village in the district on April 20 this year.

This is the first time in the district that an accused has been convicted under the Pocso Act, Malik claimed.
