A 20-year-old man was today sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment by a local court for killing a villager on the Assam-Mizoram border.
Aizawl District and Sessions Judge R Thanga convicted Raju Samir Das for killing Lalawmpuii in 2012 at Sentlang village in Kolasib district on the Mizoram-Assam border and sentenced him to rigorous life imprisonment.
Das, originally hailing from Hailakandi district in neighbouring Assam, was arrested at Mualkhang village while trying to flee Mizoram after killing Lalawmpuii.
The judge also sentenced Das with simple imprisonment of six months which would run concurrently with the life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000.
