The court sentenced Bihar native Mohammed Alam, 24, to life term, refusing the prosecution's plea to award him death pnalty, holding that the case does not fall under the 'rarest of rare' category, warranting it.
"After considering the age, character and antecedents of the convict Mohd. Alam and the circumstances in which the murder was committed, I am of the view that this case is not falling within the ambit of the rarest of the rare cases," said Additional Sessions Judge Virender Kumar Goyal.
"Accordingly, the sentence of imprisonment for life is imposed under section 302 (murder) of IPC with fine of Rs 5,000 upon convict Mohd. Alam," he added.
Alam was held guilty of murdering a local tent house employee Satish on March 20, 2010.
The victim's dead body was found lying near a railway track two days later with his mobile phone and wrist watch missing.
Alam was apprehended by the police after tracking of the victim's mobile phone.

The postmortem report revealed the victim had died due penile and scrotal injuries caused by kicks and a hard plastic pipe, which had been recovered from near the body.
Alam had denied the charges but was held guilty by the court which said the police has successfully proved the case against him.
