Ravi Dangi, in his early 20s, was stabbed in Rajendra Nagar locality here yesterday afternoon after he along with his friend Ankit took on four youths who allegedly passed lewd remarks at the girl and tried to outrage her modesty.

The assailants, two of whom have been identified as Sanju and Arun, mercilessly beat up Ravi and Ankit, both students of B.Com, before stabbing Ravi.

Bleeding profusely, Ravi was rushed to Rajendra Nagar police station by his friends.

His friends and family, including father Suresh Dangi, alleged that Ravi lay bleeding for over an hour as policemen completed formalities.

"My son would have survived if police had brought him to hospital quickly instead of wasting precious time in formalities," Suresh Dangi said.

Senior Superintendent of Police A Sai Manohar said IG, Indore, has ordered a probe into the circumstances of Ravi's death and if it was caused due to delay in shifting him to a hospital.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta said he has sought a detailed report from IG, Indore, and strict action will be taken if it is found that the youth died due to negligence by police.

"This is a question of human sensitivity. Human life is invaluable and it cannot be allowed to go waste for completing official formalities," he said.

Meanwhile, police have arrested Sanju and Arun and a hunt is on to track down their two accomplices.

City SP R S Ghuriya said Ankit's condition was stable.
