The accused Pawan Kumar had taken a loan of Rs 250 from the victim Neetu and given his mobile phone as security, they said.
However, when Kumar returned the amount and asked for his phone back, Neetu refused, asking for Rs 300 instead, they said.
This led to a dispute, which was sorted out by their neighbours, they said, adding, Kumar later stabbed Neetu, injuring him seriously.
The victim, who worked as a labourer and was married and had two daughters, was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed, they said.
Kumar has been arrested, they said.
