A 20-year-old youth, who stole laptops from colleges and hostel rooms, was arrested here today, police said.
The accused, Syed Tabrez, was nabbed from L B Nagar cross roads area here and 16 laptops worth Rs 5.50 lakh were seized from him, In-charge DCP Crimes G Janaki Sharmila said.
According to the police, the accused is addicted to alcohol consumption, playing cards and smoking. He used to enter boys' hostels as a student, along with one Mohd Shoeb - who is still at large - and commit offences in early hours when the inmates were asleep.

Tabrez also used to randomly enter houses in the residential societies in the city and when questioned by the inhabitants, he used to introduce himself as a friend of their son and then stole laptops, the senior police officer said.
Tabrez used to sell the stolen laptops in Secunderabad, Sharmila added.
