Youth washed away by flood waters in HP, cloudburst hits Kullu

A youth was washed away by gushing rain waters in Sirmaur district today as crops and houses were damaged when a cloudburst struck Garsa Nallah area of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh.

17-year-old Naresh Kumar was washed away after water level in a wide drain went up abruptly due to heavy rains in Singi village of Sirmaur district, officials said.

A cloudburst in Kayish village in Garsa Nallah area of Kullu district damaged crops and houses in Kayish village, they said, adding that a bridge and two windmills were washed away and waters entered some houses in the Mand area of downstream Pong Dam in Kangra district.
 

Several areas of Himachal Pradesh experienced moderate to heavy rains as monsoon remained normal in the state with Dharamsala being the wettest in the region with 76.3 mm of rains while, Baijnath and Palampur in Kangra district received 45 mm and 36 mm rains, followed by Gaggal 32 mm, Kheri and Paonta Sahib 21 mm, Manali 15 mm, Jogindernagar and Baldawara 11 mm and Jhandutta 10 mm.

Maximum temperatures went up marginally and Una was hottest in the region with maximum temperature at 34.0 deg C, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded a high of 31.5 deg C and 30.5 deg C, followed by Solan 28.5 deg C, Dharamsala 25.2 deg C, Shimla 23.1 deg C, Kalpa 22.2 deg C and Manali 20.7 deg C.

The Met office has predicted heavy rains in lower and mid-hill regions of the state in the next 24 hours.
