An FIR was registered today against eight persons including four cops in connection with drowning of two youths while allegedly trying to escape from policemen who were chasing them.

The FIR was lodged against police chowki in charge Udaiveer Singh, head constable Girish Chandra, constables Gaurab Singh and Vinay Gautam, homeguards Viresh Kumar and Ram Khilari and brick kiln owners Sunil Verma and Pramod Dube.

They have been charged under IPC sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy), Superintendent of Police Deo Ranjan said.

Since the post mortem report showed injuries on both the deceased's bodies, the FIR was lodged by a cousin of one of the deceased Pankaj at Ghiror police station, the SP said.

According to police the incident occurred yesterday in Kosma township of Ghiror police circle where Dilip Yadav (18) and Pankaj Yadav, 19, residents of Nibiri village in Firozabad district, jumped into a pond in a bid to avoid being caught.

The family members of the deceased had alleged that police had intercepted the tractor loaded with bricks for bribe and severely beat up both the youth in Kosma police chowki, leading to their death.

They alleged that the bodies were later thrown into a nearby pond to show it as a case of drowning but the pond had little water.

Yesterday, infuriated villagers had stormed the Kosma police post and thrashed police personnel, injuring one of them.

The SP, who rushed to the site, had suspended four police personnel and wrote against the two home guards to their department head for action.
